Seeing Possibilities When Others See Challenges – About Dror Z”L

When we first met Dror, we saw a quiet, gentle young man, trying his best not to stand out. As we got to know him, we discovered a kind soul, deeply sensitive to others.

Born with a developmental disability, Dror was often seen only through that lens. But in our Communication and Empowerment programs, he flourished. He learned to express himself, ask for what he needed, take a breath when overwhelmed, and not just be the pleaser. With our encouragement, he began to draw. At first, those around him saw it as just to pass time. But we saw the spirit behind it, the emotions he poured into every piece. His art captivated us all.

Dror gained confidence, engaged in conversations, and even participated in matchmaking meetings. One young woman told us, “I’ve never met anyone who listens so intently and finds such genuine interest in what I say.”

Tragically, during a hiking trip in the Jerusalem hills, Dror fell into a hidden pit. He passed away days later, leaving us in shock. He had become like family — the team as well as his friends in the program.

After his passing, his parents shared that Lavo B’tov was his true home. “Though he participated in many activities, this was the only place where he felt fully himself. Lavo B’tov was the home for our son Dror z”l. “

They were stunned watching segments of the program video how freely he expressed himself and communicated with others , and  how much he laughed and smiled. His father said, “We have many photos of Dror, but the only ones where he looks truly happy are from Lavo B’tov—whether on Zoom or in person.” His mother said:”  We are so happy he had you (Collective Lavo B’tov) in his life. Thank you.”

For his friends and for us, Dror became a symbol of quiet determination. Everything in life required effort for him, yet he faced every challenge with resilience, inspiring his friends in Collective Lavo – B’tov to do the same.

From someone who once tried to stay unseen, Dror became a symbol of strength, hope, a light to others and showed the power of being truly seen.

Dror’s story is just one of many. At Collective Lavo B’tov, we create spaces where people can discover their voices, express their true selves, and be valued for who they are. We believe in seeing beyond labels, in fostering confidence, and in building a community where everyone belongs.

Through seeing possibilities when other see challenges, empowerment and heartfelt connection, we help people not just exist—but truly live.
